My computer is Haunted
I’m afraid to go home tonight. I think my computer is haunted. It’s an older computer, maybe it can be forgiven. It’s been freezing up a lot lately. So much that you can’t close out Windows with mouse clicks and Start menu icons. At some point you have to just turn off the power with the little button on the front. Which is what I did yesterday afternoon. A few hours later my wife asked if I’d left the computer on. No, but there it was whirring away having restarted completely by itself. I swear, I’m not making this up. I turned it off again. Then in the dead of night (it has to be the dead of night doesn’t it), I get up and walk past the back room where the computer lives. And my heart skipped a beat as I saw the glowing red eye of the light on the mouse, and heard the computer which had turned itself on all by itself, again. Maybe it knows what’s coming, because there’s a new computer next to it that we just haven’t hooked up yet. This time I turned off the actual on/off switch in the back. You know you’re getting serious when you go around the back of a machine. So it’s off. Completely off. Right? I sure hope so. Because if I go home tonight and my haunted computer has managed to restart itself, well, you may not hear me on the radio tomorrow, because I’LL STILL BE RUNNING AWAY!
