October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 2nd, 2012 (All day)

Every week, 100 women in Washington State are diagnosed with breast cancer. October is breast cancer awareness month. Komen Puget Sound and AM 880 KIXI Radio want to make you aware of ways you can take action and increase your chances for surviving this disease.

First, get screened. If you are 40 years old or older, have a mammogram. Early detection is the key to survival. Second, know what is normal for you. See your health provider right away if you notice a lump, swelling, changes in breast size or a new pain in one spot that does not go away. And finally, live a healthy lifestyle. Maintain a healthy weight. Add exercise to your routine. Limit your use of alcohol. And, since we live in the Northwest, consult your doctor to make sure you are maintaining a normal level of vitamin D.
