Facebook.com/OfficialDavidCrosbyDavid Crosby and founding Jefferson Airplane singer Marty Balin are among the stars who will perform at a benefit concert for longtime Jefferson Starship guitarist Mark "Slick" Aguilar, who's in need of a liver transplant. The show is scheduled to take place on February 24 at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, and will raise money to help Aguilar pay his medical bills and other costs he expects to incur because of the operation.
The event, which will be emceed by Country Joe McDonald, also will feature members of the late Janis Joplin's old group Big Brother and the Holding Company, as well as other Bay area musicians. According to BAMMagazine.com, Crosby and Balin each will play an acoustic set at the concert.
In a recent interview with ABC News Radio, Aguilar revealed that last September, his doctors gave him "a 50-percent chance that I…could make it two years" without a transplant. The 58-year-old musician, who currently lives in New Jersey, plans to temporarily relocate to Florida because the waiting list for the surgery generally is shorter there.
