LynyrdSkynyrd.comBad Company and Lynyrd Skynyrd will be marking the 40th anniversary of Skynyrd's first album and the 40th anniversary of Bad Company's formation with a co-headlining tour this summer, the bands have announced.
The 40 Tour will kick off on June 20 in Auburn, WA and is slated to run through a July 27 show in Bethel, NY.
The two bands share more than an anniversary. "The Skynyrds and I go back to the ’70s," Bad Company front man Paul Rodgers says in a statement, "and in the ’90s the band introduced me to my wife Cynthia, and that’s why I am so damned happy and healthy these years."
Adds Skynyrd singer Jonny Van Zant, "Paul is one of my favorite rock singers. We have a deep appreciation for Bad Company’s music and look forward to being on the road with them and sharing the stage.”
Time certainly has taken its toll on both bands. Bad Company will take three original members on the road -- Paul Rodgers, Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs -- along with sometimes Heart guitarist Howard Leese and bassist Todd Ronning, who is taking the place of late Bad Co. bassist Boz Burrell, who **** in 2006. Lynyrd Skynyrd -- the band with the worst luck in rock history -- has one original member, Gary Rossington, and three longtime players in Jonny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke and Michael Cartellone.
