RSO RecordsClassic records by The Bee Gees and Simon & Garfunkel are among the new entries picked for entry into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.

Each year, the Library of Congress selects for the Registry a handful of songs and albums that have been judged to be "cultural, aesthetic and/or historic American treasures."  This year, The Bee Gees' 1977 soundtrack for Saturday Night Fever and Simon & Garfunkel's 1966 studio effort, Sounds of Silence, are two of the 25 chosen recordings.

For many years the biggest-selling soundtrack of all time, before it was eclipsed by The Bodyguard, Saturday Night Fever topped the charts for 24 straight weeks, won several Grammys and spun off a string of hits.  It also helped popularize the disco phenomenon worldwide.

Sounds of Silence, meanwhile, was the famed folk-rock duo's second album, and included memorable classics like "The Sound of Silence" and "I Am a Rock."

Other new entries into the Registry this year include Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, the original cast album of South Pacific, the Chubby Checker single "The Twist," Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & the Holding Company -- featuring Janis Joplin on vocals -- and The Ramones' self-titled 1976 debut album.
