Facebook.com/EltonJohnLast month, Elton John was forced to cancel a string of concerts after being diagnosed with appendicitis, and now the Rocket Man has finally gone under the knife. Britain's The Independent reports that John had surgery on Thursday in Monaco, and a spokesperson said he is "recovering well" from his appendectomy.
The Independent reports that Elton is recuperating in his home in Nice, France, and according to the U.K. paper The Mirror, he's been telling friends, "I feel great." A source tells the paper, "Elton is back in Nice playing with [his two] boys now. He is a lot better and very positive after the operation. He still has to rest up, but is determined to get back on the road next month and can't wait to see his fans who have sent thousands of 'get well soon' messages."
John posted a note on his website last month thanking fans for their well-wishes, and saying that they had "touched me deeply" and would "play a big part in my recovery." He added, "Please know that I consider myself a very blessed man to have such caring and considerate fans."
Elton's first public appearance following his surgery is scheduled for September 2 in London, when he becomes the first recipient of the BRITs Icon Award, given by the same folks who hand out the BRITs, the British Grammys. His first concert will be September 4 in Leeds, England; then, ***** appear at a couple of British festivals before heading back to the U.S. for a string of dates in Las Vegas. His new album, The Diving Board, is coming out on September 24.
