The legendary funk/disco group will perform Friday at 6:05 p.m. PT on the fest's Sutro Stage, taking over the slot that opened when R&B star D'Angelo canceled his appearance because of a medical emergency.
"We hope that D'Angelo has a speedy recovery, and we are grateful to Nile Rodgers and Chic for stepping in at this late hour," says festival promoter Allen Scott in a statement. "Chic is still one of the greatest live bands around and I can guarantee that they are going to bring the party to Outside Lands on Friday."
Chic is best known for such chart-topping hits as "Le Freak" and "Good *****," while Rodgers also has served as a producer and side musician for such artists as Madonna, David Bowie, Diana Ross and Sister Sledge. Most recently, he contributed to French electronic duo Daft Punk's #1 album Random Access Memories.
Rodgers and Chic currently have only one other U.S. appearance on the schedule, at an August 18 benefit show in Riverhead, New York. The event will raise money for All for the East End (AFTEE), which supports various charities in the eastern part of New York's Long Island.
