Matt Stroshane/Getty ImagesLittle Richard has been going through some tough ***** lately. Just a few weeks ago, the rock 'n' roll pioneer told Rolling Stone that he was "done" performing because of continuing problems with a painful hip injury, and now comes word that he suffered a heart attack last week.
RollingStone.com reports that the 80-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer discussed his latest health scare on Tuesday at a Recording Academy-sponsored event in Atlanta during which he was interviewed by R&B star and The Voice judge Cee Lo Green.
"The other night, I didn't know I was having a heart attack," Little Richard said, recounting the incident. "I was coughing, and my right arm was aching. I told my son, 'Make the room as cold as ice.' So he turned the air conditioning on, and I took a baby aspirin."
Little Richard apparently did all the right things because, as he noted, "The doctor told me that saved my life."
The singer/pianist, who is an ordained minister, also credited his faith for his recovery. "Jesus had something for me," he said. "He brought me through."
Richard and Cee Lo talked about a wide variety of subjects during the event, with the conversation eventually touching on the veteran rock 'n' roller's belief that an apocalypse is coming.
"God talked to me the other night," maintained Little Richard said. "He said he's getting ready to come. The world's getting ready to end…and He's coming, ******* in flames of fire with a rainbow around his throne."
While some members of the audience reportedly laughed when the singer discussed his philosophy, Richard insisted, "When I talk to you about God, I'm not playing…I'm almost 81 years old. Without God, I wouldn't be here."
