Photo: Rob ShanahanRingo Starr has been confirmed to attend the Recording Academy's Special Merit Awards ceremony, which will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on January 25, one day before the 56th annual Grammy Awards. Starr likely will be on hand to accept the previously announced Lifetime Achievement Award that The Beatles will be receiving at the event.
Other stars who will be attending the Special Merit Awards gala include Isley Brothers members Ernie Isley, Ronald Isley and Chris Jasper; Kris Kristofferson; Kraftwerk singer/keyboardist Ralf Hütter; and zydeco legend Clifton Chenier. In addition, as-yet-unannounced family members or representatives of the late John Lennon and George Harrison will be on hand. The Isleys, Kristofferson, Kraftwerk and Chenier will be presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the invite-only bash as well, while a number of other honors also will be handed out.
All the Special Merit Awards honorees will be acknowledged during the Grammys telecast, which CBS will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. As previously reported, Starr and his fellow surviving Beatles band mate Paul McCartney both will perform on the show.
