429 RecordsA concert video featuring a performance by The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue, the touring outfit starring Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, ex-Doobie Brother Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 18. The Dukes of September Live includes an 18-song set taped at Lincoln Center in New York City in November 2012.
The show also will air as an episode of the PBS series Great Performances during the network's March pledge week. The Dukes of September Rhythm Revue performance features the three singer/songwriters playing well-known tunes from their respective catalogs, as well as a selection of classic R&B and soul covers. Fagen, McDonald and Scaggs are backed by a large group of musicians, many of whom are part of Steely Dan's touring band.
Among the songs featured on the DVD are renditions of Steely Dan's "Kid Charlegmagne," "Peg" and "Reelin' In the Years," The Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" and "Takin' It to the Streets," and Scaggs' "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle." The concert also included versions of The Isley Brothers' "Who's That Lady?," Arthur Conley's "Sweet Soul Music," and Teddy Pendergrass' "Love T.K.O."
"I love revues like the Dukes," says Fagen. "Different singers, all kinds of surprises. If the listener's indifferent to one tune, they'll dig the next."
