Spiegel & GrauA new memoir about Duane Allman written by the late Allman Brothers Band guitarist's daughter, Galadrielle, will be published this Monday, March 3. In the book, titled Please Be with Me: A Song for My Father Duane Allman, Galadrielle shares her own experiences growing up as the only child of the influential musician, who was killed in a motorcycle crash when she was just two years old. She also includes stories and information about her dad that she collected from family members, band mates and musical collaborators.
The 400-page memoir is available as a hardcover volume and as an ebook. In a video trailer for Please Be with Me, Galadrielle says, "Duane Allman's story is more than a tragedy, it's a true romance. He fell in love with his guitar and gave his heart away."
About taking on the writing of the book, she explains, "I dreaded pursuing his story as a reporter would, asking uncomfortable questions and following every lead. I couldn't imagine interviewing my family, but I knew that if I didn't, I would never be satisfied."
She adds, "Learning about him changed my life completely. A missing piece that I thought could only be had by knowing him has been returned to me, assembled from all the gathered fragments word by word.
Galadrielle describes the memoir as "my song of love, built around the lost chord."
Commenting about Please Be with Me, Allmans frontman and Duane's younger brother Gregg Allman says, "I thought I knew everything there was to know about him, but Galadrielle's deep and insightful book came as a revelation to me, as it will to everyone who reads it."
