According to the Irish Independent newspaper, Dorinish Island is now on the open market after being sold by Yoko Ono to two local brothers in 1984.
John Lennon purchased the island off the west coast of Ireland in 1967 for 2,432 dollars. According to the Independent, shortly before his death Lennon told an interviewer of his vision for himself and Yoko when he turned 64: "I hope we're a nice old couple living off the coast of Ireland, looking at our scrapbook of madness." In 2006 Ono said, "We often discussed the idea of building a cottage there. It was so beautiful, so tranquil, yet so isolated -- it seemed a perfect place to get away from it all."
Lennon only visited the island once, the Independent reports, shortly after purchasing it.
