Image credit: Andrew MacphersonJoe Walsh kicked off his North American summer tour in support of his new solo album, Analog Man, on Saturday in Naperville, Illinois. The longtime Eagles guitarist says that while he's excited to play his new material in concert, he assures fans he won't be skimping on the classic tunes for which he's best known.
"In all fairness to fans, they come to hear stuff, which they remind me during the whole show, yelling," he tells ABC News Radio with a chuckle. "That's OK. [I] try and get everybody to go home happy that way."
Walsh also reveals he's including a special tune in his set in honor of The Band's Levon Helm, who passed away in April at age 71 after a battle with cancer. Walsh and Helm both were part of Ringo Starr's first All Starr Band lineup back in 1989.
"I'm doing a…song in tribute, 'I Shall Be Released,'" explains Walsh, referring to the memorable Bob Dylan tune The Band covered on its 1968 debut, Music from Big Pink. "[I'm] still getting over Levon passing, so, it makes me feel better if I do that song in the show."
Walsh's solo trek is scheduled to run through a September 30 show in Saratoga, California. The guitarist also will return to action with the Eagles before the end of the year, as the band has a November 17 show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Walsh has confirmed that the Eagles will be mounting a major 40th anniversary tour in 2013.
