Mary McCartney/MPL Communications Ltd.Ever the outspoken supporter of animal rights, Paul McCartney is now championing a new global campaign launched by Humane Society International (HSI) that seeks to put an end to animal testing by the cosmetics industry. The organization has introduced the Be Cruelty-Free pledge, which the rock superstar is urging people to sign in an attempt to convince cosmetics companies to stop the tests and replace them with ones that don't involve harming animals.
In a statement, McCartney says, "The ugly truth about testing beauty products on animals is that it causes them unimaginable pain and suffering. If every cosmetic tested on rabbits or mice had a photo on the packaging showing these animals with weeping swollen eyes and inflamed skin, I believe everyone would leave cruelty on the shelf and go for the cruelty-free option instead."
He adds, "Go online, sign the Be Cruelty-Free pledge today and help HSI achieve a world where no animal has to suffer and die for the sake of cosmetics."
People wishing to add their names to the pledge can do so at HSI.org/BeCrueltyFree.
