Universal Music EnterprisesA deluxe edition of Neil Diamond's Hot August Night will be released on July 31 as a two-CD set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the singer/songwriter's classic 1972 live album.
The remastered recording will offer three previously unreleased songs, as well as stage banter and introductions not included on the original double LP. The newly added tunes are versions of Diamond's 1968 gem "A Modern Day Version of Love" and his 1972 tune "Gitchy Goomy," as well as a cover of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today."
Hot August Night was recorded on August 24, 1972, at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, part of a 10-show run Diamond played at the venue that month. The album, which was released in December of that year, reached #5 on the Billboard 200 chart and has sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S.
As previously reported, Diamond has scheduled a new series of concerts at the Greek Theatre in celebration of the album's anniversary. The dates are August 11, 16, 18, 23 and 25.
