Olympics Opening Ceremony Soundtrack Featuring Bowie and U2 Tops iTunes Charts

Miguel Medina/AFP/Getty ImagesA 36-song, two-disc set of music featured during the opening ceremony of the London Olympics has shot to the top of the iTunes album charts in Britain, France, Belgium, and Spain and hit #5 in the U.S.  It sits in the top five or top ten in Germany, Australia, Ireland, Canada and many other countries.

Entitled Isle of Wonder, the opening ceremony soundtrack features music by David Bowie, The Pet Shop Boys, Arctic Monkeys, U2 and Mike Oldfield. The Universal Music release also contains music by Underworld, the electronic duo that served as musical consultants to opening ceremony director Danny Boyle. 

Universal Music will also record the closing ceremony to the London Games, which takes place on August 12 and will feature The Who.
