Lynyrd Skynyrd to Perform Before 2012 Republican National Convention

Webster PRLynyrd Skynyrd will show their support for presidential candidate Mitt Romney by performing at an August 26 event in Tampa, Florida, celebrating the start of the Republican National Convention.  Several of the Southern rock band's members will be on hand that day and the next to chat with the press about their political beliefs and why they're backing Romney.  The Republican National Convention will run from August 27 until August 30 in Tampa.

Skynyrd also soon will be celebrating the release of their new studio album, Last of a Dyin' Breed, which hits stores on August 21.  Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke discussed the meaning behind the record's title in a recent Facebook post.

"I think [Skynyrd is] right there with several other bands, such as The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, AC/DC and ZZ Top," he explained.  "We are the last of those bands, and at some point, we aren't gonna be here anymore.  People should try and see them at least once and get next to the music, because it's really worth it.  We really are the last of a dying breed."
