The performance will take place in Central Park in New York City on September 29. The event is scheduled to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly Meeting, where international leaders will discuss policies to reduce worldwide poverty by 2015.
Regarding the initiative, Young says, "With at least 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty on Earth today, there has never been a better time to become a Global Citizen and do whatever you can to make a difference for your fellow man."
Other artists are on the Global Festival bill include modern rock stars the Foo Fighters, blues-rockers The Black Keys, indie-rock act Band of Horses and Somali-Canadian singer-rapper K'naan.
Fifty-four thousand tickets will be given away by lottery, but you’ll have to perform a number of charitable deeds or donate money to enter the drawing for your ticket. In addition, a limited number of VIP passes will be sold. Visit GlobalFestival.com for more information.
