Micky Dolenz Reminisces About Career, Life on New Solo Album, "Remember"

Waterfront Entertainment Group/Robo RecordsWhile the death of Davy Jones in February may have signaled an end to The Monkees, Micky Dolenz is moving forward with his solo career.  The singer has a brand-new album titled Remember that's scheduled to arrive on September 25.  Dolenz describes the 12-track collection as an "audio scrapbook of the important songs in my life that had meant something to me for one reason or another."

Remember includes updated versions of Monkees tunes, covers of some songs he'd previously passed up the opportunity to record and some new compositions.

Leading off Remember is a version of The Beatles' "Good Morning Good Morning," which Dolenz explains was a tune the Fab Four was working on when he was invited to meet them at London's Abbey Road Studios back in the late '60s.  Also featured is a rendition of Chuck Berry's immortal "Johnny B. Goode," a song Dolenz sang when he auditioned for The Monkees TV show.

Remember also offers a new take on the Neil Diamond-penned Monkees classic "I'm a Believer," to which Dolenz added some country flavor.

The title track, meanwhile, is a sentimental tune by the late Harry Nilsson, who was a close friend of Micky's.  "I was actually there when he wrote the song…and it stayed with me for the rest of my life," explains Dolenz.

Dolenz currently is taking part in the Happy Together Tour with The Turtles, The Buckinghams, The Grass Roots and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.  The trek is scheduled through an August 30 performance in Syracuse, New York.  He also has a number of upcoming solo headlining shows.  Visit Pollstar.com to check out Dolenz's full itinerary.
