ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty ImagesEach year, the World Soundtrack Academy recognizes the best in three categories: Film Composer of the Year, Best Original Score of the Year and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film.  And this year, Madonna is among the nominees.

The superstar's song "Masterpiece" is nominated in the best song category.  She co-wrote the tune for her movie W.E., which she directed; it also appears on her current album, MDNA.  "Masterpiece" won Madonna a Golden Globe award earlier this year.

Madonna's competition in the category includes Mary J. Blige, whose song "Living Proof" from The Help is also nominated, and actress Glenn Close, who co-wrote a tune called "Lay Your Head Down" for her most recent film, Albert Nobbs.

The winners will be revealed at the World Soundtrack Awards and concert, taking place on Saturday, October 20, the closing night of the Ghent International Film Festival in Ghent, Belgium.
