The-Saleroom.com/Omega AuctionsA very personal item once belonging to Elvis Presley is set to hit the auction block next week as part of a U.K. memorabilia sale devoted solely to the late King of Rock 'n' Roll. A pair of unwashed underwear that Elvis wore on stage in 1977 beneath one of his trademark jumpsuits will be up for bid at the auction, which will take place Saturday, September 8, in Stockport, England.
The light-blue dance briefs, which are visibly soiled, were purchased from the estate of Presley's father, Vernon, and previously were displayed at the now-closed Elvis-A-Rama Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. The undies are expected to bring in between 7,000 and 9,000 pounds, the equivalent of about $11,000 to $14,000.
Also being auctioned is Elvis' personal Bible, which features handwritten notes, musings and underlined passages from the rock legend. The book is expected to sell for as much as 25,000 pounds, or $40,000. Other Presley items going on the block include home movies of Elvis and his family, signed contracts and jewelry items.
Live footage of the sale will be streamed online at OmegaAuctions.co.uk.
