Sony PicturesNeil Young's 2011 concert documentary, the Jonathan Demme-directed Neil Young Journeys, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 16.
The film features footage from the final two concerts on Young's tour, in support of his Le Noise album, which took place in May 2011 at Toronto's Massey Hall. The movie also boasts footage of the famed singer/songwriter visiting Omemee, Canada, where he grew up, and driving a vintage 1956 Ford Crown Victoria from the rural town to the gigs.
Among the highlights of the concert portion of the flick are Young's renditions of such enduring songs as "Ohio" and "Hey Hey, My My," as well as renditions of the unreleased tunes "Leia" and "You Never Call." Exclusive clips of Young playing the two rarities have been posted online at EW.com.
The Neil Young Journeys DVD and Blu-ray also offer some bonus material, including a short film about the making of the movie. There's also footage of Q&A sessions in which Young and Demme participated earlier this year at the Slamdance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
