PRNewsFoto/TJL ProductionsPatti LaBelle will fork over $100,000 to settle a lawsuit that accused her of screaming obscenities at a mother and her young daughter, then drenching the woman with bottled water, in the lobby of their New York City apartment building in 2010, reports the New York Post.
The case was headed to jury trial in late November, and a lawyer for the mom, Roseanna Monk, tells the Post that LaBelle wouldn't have stood much of a chance once his client brought her cute little girl into the courtroom. Patti denied *********** in the lawsuit, but a request by ABC News Radio for comment went unanswered.
At the time of the reported incident, LaBelle and the Monk family lived in the same apartment building on Manhattan's Upper West Side. A lawyer for Roseanna Monk says that the R&B diva blew her cool because she thought the child was wandering around the lobby without supervision.
The Monk family's lawyer says that Patti's tirade was traumatic for the little girl, who became shy and clingy as a result. Both the Monks and their attorney will donate the settlement money to a children's cancer charity.
