Disney Pearl RecordsBeach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson has revealed that he underwent not one, but two back surgeries recently, including a procedure that was performed this past week. In a post on his official Tumblr page, the famous musician reports that his ailment stems from a hereditary condition that his late brother Carl also had.
"Before the Beach Boys 50th tour started I was having some lower back issues right around the time we performed on the Grammys in February," he writes. "But being able to tour with the Boys again meant so much to me that I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Luckily, I was able to get this new cutting edge procedure that totally worked."
He adds, "But after this last run [of concerts] in Australia it came back and I had the procedure redone this week. I feel so much better already and can't wait to get back to my second home, London!!"
The Beach Boys currently have only two scheduled appearances left on their 50th anniversary tour -- a pair of gigs September 27 and 28 at London's Royal Albert Hall.
First up for The Beach Boys, though, is a special appearance this Tuesday at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles to mark the opening of an exhibit devoted to the band. The band members are expected to be on hand to perform a brief acoustic set and participate in a Q&A session. Prior to the sold-out event, The Beach Boys will be presented with plaques certifying as triple-platinum the band's 2003 Sounds of Summer compilation.
