Reprise RecordsNeil Young & Crazy Horse have unveiled an updated cover for their forthcoming studio album, Psychedelic Pill, which will be released as a two-CD set on October 30 and as a three-LP vinyl collection on November 23.
The new image features the same baroque lettering that appeared on the initial cover, but instead of a celestial sky with a small golden pill in the middle, the revised cover boasts what appears to be a large medicine tablet with the words "Neil Young Crazy Horse" and the silhouette of an American Indian riding on a galloping horse etched into it.
According to a statement, the cover was changed to feature "a stronger, more direct image to reflect the commanding and expansive music heard on the two-CD or three-vinyl-disc sets." Psychedelic Pill is the longest set of original compositions Young & Crazy Horse have released.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and his longtime backing group have a pair of special gigs lined up in the next couple of weeks -- an appearance this Saturday at Farm Aid 2012 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and a free performance September 29 at the Global Festival in New York City's Central Park. The band then will kick off a fall tour with an October 3 concert in Windsor, Canada.
