Amy Helm also explained that her father's battle with throat cancer inspired the Ramble sessions. "He walked through a lot of real dark ***** when he first got sick," says Amy. "There was nobody around, no scene, no Ramble.  He was really walking through bankruptcy and illness.  He always had the support and love of the community here, but in terms of building something, he really started from scratch with Jimmy Vivino and Larry Campbell and some others."

Volume 3 will feature Allen Toussaint and Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes.  "Love for Levon," an all-star concert benefiting the estate, will be performed October 3 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  Guests will include Roger Waters, Gregg Allman, John Mayer, Mavis Staples, Joe Walsh and Bruce Hornsby.

Meanwhile, Rolling Stone is streaming a performance of Levon Helm singing "Same Thing" from Midnight Ramble Sessions Volume 3.
