SoulTrainCruise.comThe first-ever Soul Train cruise, featuring Patti LaBelle, The O'Jays and Jeffrey Osborne, sold out weeks ago, but there's still a chance for music lovers to set sail on "the hippest trip in America." Organizers have announced a second seven-day cruise, scheduled for 2013, which will feature on-board entertainment from Earth, Wind & Fire, Gladys Knight, Jeffrey Osborne, The Whispers and more.
Osborne says in a statement that he "can't wait" for the second Soul Train cruise. "I will be on board performing and hanging out with all of the wonderful passengers as we visit places like Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas." Those are just two of the stops on the journey, which embarks from San Diego on October 5, 2013.
The Ohio Players, A Taste of Honey, The Bar-Kays, Freddie Jackson and Jennifer Holliday also are among the stars who've been confirmed to perform during the cruise. Holliday says in a statement that taking the stage during the Soul Train cruise gives her a way to "personally thank and honor the legacy of Don Cornelius." The celebrated Soul Train producer and host passed away earlier this year, and Jennifer says, "I'm proud and thrilled to join the newest 'Hippest Trip in America' as we jump the track and climb aboard this beautiful ship to celebrate a music icon and set sail in the name of 'Love, Peace & Soul'."
Guests are promised non-stop parties, and when they get to Puerto Vallarta, Osborne will be hosting a golf tournament. Some of the dancers who actually appeared on Soul Train will be on hand to show off their moves, and veteran hip-hop star Biz Markie will handle DJ duties. There also will be back-to-back concerts, with Billy Paul, Regina Bell and Jody Whatley also set to perform.
Information about reserving a spot on the second Soul Train cruise is available online. The inaugural cruise gets under way this February.
