GeffenThe Who is planning to treat fans to a couple of special releases that will arrive in stores in time for the holiday season. On November 6, the band will issue the Live at Hull 1970 concert album as a separate two-CD package, while on November 20, a limited-edition box set featuring high-quality vinyl versions of all of the band's studio efforts will be released.
Live at Hull was recorded in Hull, England, on February 15, 1970, one day before The Who played the show documented for the group's classic Live at Leeds album. The two-CD collection previously was only available as part of the now-out-of-print deluxe Live at Leeds box set. Disc two of Live at Hull includes a complete performance of The Who's 1969 rock opera, Tommy. An interesting note: The first six songs from the original Live at Hull recording were missing John Entwistle's bass, a problem corrected digitally by mixing in the rocker's parts from the same tunes on the Live at Leeds tapes.
As for The Studio Albums vinyl box set, the package will feature virgin heavyweight vinyl versions of the band's 11 full-length studio releases re-mastered by frequent Who collaborator Jon Astley. The collection will come housed in a specially designed hard box, and the albums will feature the posters and inserts included with the original discs.
Meanwhile, a mono version of The Who's debut album, My Generation, will be issued on CD in the U.K. next month, although no U.S. release date has been announced.
