Elton John Wins Legal Case Involving "Nikita" Lyrics

Facebook.com/EltonJohnElton John has prevailed in a lawsuit brought against him by a songwriter who claimed he was the inspiration for the lyrics to Elton's 1985 hit "Nikita," according to TMZ.com.

Guy Hobbs filed his suit in April, alleging that his 1982 song, "Natasha," contained lyrics that were later used by Elton for "Nikita."

Hobbs said his song was written after he had an affair with a Russian cruise ship waitress. Elton countered that his tune is about a Western guy who falls in love with an East German female border guard during the Cold War -- a theme, he argued, that cannot be copyrighted.

TMZ reports that an Ilinois judge has sided with Elton.
