MVD VisualA documentary featuring Ike & Tina Turner both on stage and behind the scenes during the early 1970s hits stores on Tuesday. Ike & Tina: On the Road 1971-72 offers rare footage of the soulful duo that was filmed by renowned photographer Bob Gruen.
The film captures the couple several years before their bitter breakup, and shows them performing in concert, working on music in the recording studio and enjoying time at home with their children. The flick also includes scenes of Tina giving interviews, practicing dance moves with her backing singers The Ikettes and joking around while traveling between shows. Among the classic tunes featured in the movie are renditions of "River Deep, Mountain High," "Proud Mary" and "I Want to Take You Higher."
"What's Love Got to Do With It? shows why Ike and Tina Turner broke up," says Gruen, referring to the 1993 biopic. "This film shows why they were together for 20 years before that."
