Verve Music GroupChristmas has brought an early gift to Rod Stewart. A track from his first holiday album, Merry Christmas, Baby, has become his first song to top Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart in nearly 20 years.
Stewart's version of "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" has zoomed from #18 on the chart to #1 this week, since many stations switched to all Christmas music over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The last time Rod was on top of the Adult Contemporary chart was back in May of 1993, with his version of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately." "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow" is his fourth #1 overall on the chart: his others were "Downtown Train" and "This Old Heart of Mine."
Stewart's album Merry Christmas, Baby has sold nearly a quarter million copies since it was released two weeks ago, and it currently sits at #6 on the Billboard 200 tally. Monday night saw the premiere of his new PBS Great Performances Christmas special, which will air throughout December. It features guest appearances by Michael Buble, Cee Lo Green and Mary J. Blige, who all appear on Stewart's holiday collection.
