Facebook.com/EltonJohnElton John's music isn't controversial, but apparently, he's considered dangerous enough that an Islamic political party in Malaysia is calling for his concert to be banned in that country.
Elton's scheduled to perform in Malaysia on Thursday, but the news agency AFP reports that the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party is saying the show should be banned because Elton promotes "immoral values." This despite the fact that he performed in Malaysia a year ago to a sold-out crowd.
"Artists who are involved in *** and ******* activities must not be allowed to perform in Malaysia as they will promote the wrong values," a party spokesperson told AFP. The spokesperson said that the party will "demand that authorities cancel the immoral performance to protect our society from social degradation."
Homosexuality is generally not accepted in Malaysia. More than half the population is Muslim, and sodomy is a crime that is punished by up to 20 years in prison.
