Lloyd Bishop/NBCAretha Franklin is set to perform at the Salvation Army's 65th annual gala in New York City next week. 

The December 5 event is being held to honor music producer Phil Ramone, who helped in the formation of the Salvation Army Phil Ramone Orchestra for Children.  Ramone, a 15-time Grammy winner, has worked with Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Paul Simon, Billy Joel and many others.

Valerie Simpson also is among the stars expected to perform at the gala.
