BillyJoel.comYears ago, before stars like Elton John, Rod Stewart and Carlos Santana were headlining in Las Vegas, Billy Joel said that artists who perform there become "lounge singers" and "parodies of themselves." Well, let's hope he's changed his mind on that, because rumor has it the Piano Man may be heading to Sin City himself.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that the talk around town is that Joel, who hasn't played a non-benefit concert in quite some time, has signed up to do some New Year's shows at the Encore Theater at the Wynn Hotel & Casino. That's the same venue that Billy's pal, country superstar Garth Brooks, has been headlining for the past few years.
The paper further reports that the casino's owner, Steve Wynn, is now trying to woo Billy for an actual residency at the Encore Theater, on a similar schedule to the one that Garth had. Garth's three-year residency, which just ended, was much more casual than those of, say, John and Stewart. The country icon did a one-man show, not a big production, and only performed on the weekends.
Joel's next performance will be December 12, at the all-star Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at New York's Madison Square Garden. ***** share the bill with Paul McCartney,The Who, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Bon Jovi, among other big names.
