G.L.A. RecordsThis week, Gary U.S. Bonds released his first-ever holiday album, Christmas Is On! The 10-song collection is made up mostly of original tunes, including three that the veteran rock & soul singer wrote with his daughter, Laurie -- "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Christmas Is a Phone Call Away" and "Santa Bring My Baby Home to Me." The album also features Bonds' renditions of the yuletide classics "White Christmas" and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."
Bonds co-produced Christmas Is On! with his daughter, who, along with Gary's wife, also named Laurie, lent backing vocals to the record.
"I love a good time had by all and what better way to spread the good cheer than release a Christmas CD full of music to get your feet moving and your spirits lifted," says Bonds in a statement. "It's been 45 years since I recorded a Christmas song and thought that it was about time to do it again. I really enjoyed making this album."
In other Bonds news, the 73-year-old singer will play a special benefit show Thursday night at The Strand Theatre in Lakewood, New Jersey. The event, part of the "Restore the Shore" concert series, will raise money to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Then, on Tuesday, December 4, Gary will celebrate the release of Christmas Is On! by visiting the J&R Music World store in New York City. At the event, which will start at 6 p.m. ET, Bonds will sign copies of the CD and play a few tunes.
