Rhino RecordsAn album featuring rare and unreleased live recordings of Peter, Paul and Mary will be released on December 11 to commemorate the famed folk trio's 50th anniversary.
Live in Japan, 1967, which will be available as a two-CD set and a digital download, gathers 24 songs that Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and the late Mary Travers performed at concerts in Tokyo and Kyoto during December of that year.
The first disc was previously issued in Japan only, under the title Deluxe: Live in Japan, while the second disc boasts 12 unreleased tracks that were rediscovered during the remastering process. Among the classic songs featured on the albums are Peter, Paul and Mary's signature tune "****, the Magic Dragon," and renditions of their hit covers of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" and Pete Seger's "If I Had a Hammer."
"In many ways, this album shows Peter, Paul and Mary at the zenith of our abilities," says Yarrow. "As a live recording, I believe it's better than any we've ever made."
