RCA/Legacy RecordingsElvis Presley and The Beatles have claimed the top two spots, respectively, on a newly-revealed list of the most-forged celebrity signatures. The "ten most dangerous autographs" tally was compiled by PSA/DNA, a group that bills itself as "the largest and most trusted third-party grading and authentication company in the world." The organization notes that signatures from many popular entertainers and historical figures are more likely than not to be counterfeit.
The PSA/DNA points out that authentic signed items from Presley are very rare, partly because of the singer **** at such an young age. As for The Beatles, which the company labels "the most heavily forged band in the autograph world," the rarity of their signatures can be attributed to the Fab Four's relatively brief time together, as well as to the early death of John Lennon.
Other music luminaries appearing on PSA/DNA's list of most-forged celebrities are Michael Jackson at #5, Doors frontman Jim Morrison at #7, and Jimi Hendrix at #8.
The company also released a separate list of the most-forged sports figures, which includes such stars as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali.
