Mercury NashvilleNielsen SoundScan has tabulated all the sales figures from 2012, and Lionel Richie's country-duets collection, Tuskegee, is officially among the top 10 best-selling albums of the year.  Billboard reports that the release sold 1.07 million copies to land at #9 on the tally.

Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby also made a splash on the year-end list.  The yuletide collection was the most successful holiday album of 2012, selling 848,000 copies to land at #15 overall.

The Beatles have been broken up for more than 40 years, but the legendary band's albums continue to sell, and are particularly popular on vinyl.  The group's 1969 classic Abbey Road was the second-best-selling vinyl album of the past year, with 30,000 copies sold.  The same record was the #1 vinyl release in 2011, after selling 41,000 copies.

The top-selling album of 2012 overall was Adele's 21, with 4.41 million copies sold.  Impressively, it was also the best-selling album of 2011, selling 5.82 million copies that year, making this the first time since 1991 -- the year Nielsen SoundScan started tracking album sales -- that the same album has been the best seller two years in a row.
