Paul Simon's "Graceland" Documentary Getting Its PBS Premiere Tonight

Courtesy of Paul Simon Private Collection by Luise GubbJust a reminder to tune in to PBS' Great Performances tonight to watch the 2012 documentary that focused on Paul Simon's return trip to South Africa in 2011 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Graceland.  Paul Simon's Graceland Journey: Under African Skies is scheduled to air at 9 p.m. ET on select channels; check your listings for exact airtimes.

The film follows Simon as he travels back to South Africa to reconnect and perform with his Graceland collaborators.  It also features conversations with the singer/songwriter as he recalls the making of the album and the controversy surrounding his decision to record with African musicians during a time when a cultural boycott of South Africa had been imposed to protest the country's apartheid policy.  Under African Skies also includes interviews with Paul McCartney, David Byrne, Quincy Jones and Harry Belafonte, among others.

The movie debuted at last year's at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win an Emmy Award, as well as numerous honors at various other movie fests.  The documentary is available on DVD, and is included in deluxe versions of the 25th anniversary reissue of Graceland.

In other news, Simon has scheduled his first two concerts of 2013, but you'll likely have to travel a long way to attend the shows.  The folk-rock great is set to perform at Singapore's Timbre Rock & Roots Festival on March 22 and Australia's Byron Bay Bluesfest on April 1.
