Blind Pig RecordsDoors keyboardist Ray Manzarek is set to continue his ongoing collaboration with slide guitarist Roy Rogers with a series of winter concerts, starting with a show this Saturday in Napa, California. The Manzarek-Rogers Band has a total eight confirmed tour dates scheduled: four in California this month and four in Hawaii in early February.
Meanwhile, the group recently announced that it will be releasing a new album this year titled Twisted Tales, a follow-up to Manzarek and Rogers' 2011 studio effort, Translucent Blues. In addition, a full-length documentary about the two musicians is in production.
In a recent interview with GTWeekly.com, Manzarek discusses the feeling he gets when he performs live with Rogers and the rest of their band, which also includes bassist Steve Evans and drummer Kevin Hayes.
"We try to find a common place from which all energy comes," he explains. "We enter into kind of a Zen state of grasping the power of the vibrations of the universe, which we all should, and we all do, inadvertently...We consciously seek to grab that power and meld it into four guys and then drive it out to the audience."
During the interview, the online magazine also suggests that Manzarek's singing style is sometimes reminiscent of late Doors frontman Jim Morrison.
"No. I sing like Ray Manzarek," responds the keyboardist. "However, Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison seem to sing very similarly, don't they? You know what? We were in the same band together and spent a lot of time together. So I think somehow that's sort of a Vulcan mind-meld, is what's happening there."
