Paul McCartney, Tom Petty Decorate Skateboards for Charity Auction

Mary McCartney/MPL Communications Ltd.Paul McCartney and Tom Petty are among the music stars who have written lyrics to their songs on skateboards that will be auctioned online on November 29 to benefit a charity founded by renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk. 

McCartney wrote the words to his Beatles classic "Blackbird" on a board that belonged to Hawk, while Petty scrawled out the lyrics of "I Won't Back Down" on another deck. read more ≫


Boy or Girl? Clinic Offers Choice

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- A U.S. fertility clinic is luring patients from abroad with the promise of picking their baby's gender.

Each year, more than 200 women travel to The Fertility Institutes' New York and Los Angeles locations from countries where gender selection is banned, according to clinic director Dr. Jeffrey Steinberg.

"Women from countries like China and India tend to want boys. In the rest of the world, there's a slight preference for girls," said Steinberg, a reproductive endocrinologist, who trained in England where gender selection is illegal.  read more ≫


Carole King to Join Alicia Keys for Black Ball Benefit

Photo: James O'MaraCarole King has been added to the lineup of acclaimed R&B singer/songwriter Alicia Keys' annual New York City benefit concert, the Black Ball, which is scheduled for November 1 at the Hammerstein Ballroom. The charity event benefits Keys' Keep a Child Alive Foundation.

In a statement, Alicia says, "Carole King is an inspirational musician who blazed the trail for women in the music industry and I’m honored to have her perform at the Black Ball."  read more ≫


Report Warns of Trampoline Dangers

Hemera/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- An estimated 98,000 trampoline-related injuries occurred in 2009, resulting in 3,100 hospitalizations, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).  Head and neck trauma account for 17 percent of injuries.

While the number of trampoline-related injuries has steadily decreased since 2004, the AAP reaffirmed its position on Monday, advising against any recreational trampoline use. read more ≫
