Tina Korhonen/Wymer PublishingSteve Hackett, who played guitar in Genesis from 1971 to 1977, will give fans a look behind-the-scenes at his time in the band in his autobiography, coming in July.

Called A Genesis In My Bed, the book tells Hackett’s entire life story, but there’s an emphasis on his years with the band, which saw the release of classic albums like Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering.

Hackett also goes into his personal relationships with the other members of the band: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.  Gabriel left Genesis in 1975, so after Hackett departed in 1977, the band — reduced to the trio of Collins, Banks and Rutherford — called their next album …And Then There Were Three.

Speaking about the book, Hackett said, “It’s often revealing. There’s lace, loves and butterflies, and I explore personal feelings. I’ve answered many questions fans asked over the years too, such as why I left Genesis.”

“It’s taken fifteen years to bring this book to fruition, writing between tours, recording and legal challenges, but that’s given me time to really develop it,” he adds.  You can buy it at Hackett’s online store.

Meanwhile, Hackett was forced to postpone his U.S. tour, but says, “We have every intention of playing as soon as venues are open again.”

The Genesis lineup of Banks, Rutherford and Collins have announced a reunion tour planned this fall in the U.K., but it’s not clear if it will go forward, given the pandemic.  Classic Genesis concert films have been screening on the band’s official YouTube channel, though.  This past Sunday was the penultimate one, 1992’s The Way We Walk.  The last one, on May 16, is 2007’s When In Rome.
