In March, Trevor Rabin released a 10-CD box set called Changes that delved deeply into his solo career, and now the ex-Yes guitarist says he’s focusing on a new collection of original solo material.
Rabin tells ABC Audio that he’s been working on the new album, a follow-up to 2012’s mostly instrumental Jacaranda, for several years. He notes that he was halfway done with it when he got sidetracked putting together the box set, as well as taking part in multiple tours with the Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman project in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Trevor says, unlike Jacaranda, the upcoming album will feature “vocals and the whole enchilada.”
He adds, “I finally want to get this record finished. And so, I’ve been working pretty hard on it.”
As for whether he planned to have guest musicians take part in the recording, Rabin reveals, “At this point…I’m just writing the stuff, and I will definitely be getting people in. At this point, I haven’t decided who and when and how.”
Regarding the status of Yes Featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman, which also included fellow former Yes members Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman, Rabin says, “I think that’s over.”
Trevor points out that the band members had intended to record some new music for the project, but he felt that the way they were trying to do it, “by sending files around” rather than working in the studio together, wasn’t ideal.
Rabin adds, “We had a great time touring,” but doing it again “without any new music to me seems like a bad idea.”
As for whether he’d consider touring again with Anderson and Wakeman, Trevor says, “I would never say never, but it’s certainly nothing [I’m planning to do] in the near future.”
