We now have official details about the premiere of Mountaintop, the new documentary about Neil Young‘s upcoming album, Colorado, which he recorded with his old backing group Crazy Horse. The film will be screened in over 100 North American theaters on October 22, three days before the record’s release.
A press statement about Mountaintop describes the movie as “a raw and extremely unfiltered look at the process of Neil Young with Crazy Horse making their 1st album in 7 years,” adding, “Witness the laughter, tensions, crusty attitudes & love, of a rock & roll band that’s been together for 50 years as they share their passion, first and foremost…for the music.”
“You may be surprised to learn some of the deep secrets of the process as you laugh you’re a** off in a theater near you,” says Young, who co-produced Mountaintop under his pseudonym Bernard Shakey. “One night only and there is a reason for that.”
Mountaintop features footage Young and the current Crazy Horse lineup — bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and guitarist/keyboardist Nils Lofgren — recording Colorado in a studio high in the Rocky Mountains.
You can check out an uncensored version of the recently released trailer for the flick, which features Young spewing expletives as he works to get the sound he wants on one of the new tracks, at Neil Young’s official YouTube channel.
Screenings of Mountaintop in many countries outside of North America will take place on November 18.
