New Todd Rundgren’s Utopia box set featuring two 2011 reunion concerts due in May

Purple Pyramid RecordsIn 2011, most of the 1974 lineup of Todd Rundgren‘s prog-rock group Utopia reunited to play a series of shows to raise money to help founding keyboardist Mark “Moogy” Klingman pay medical bills he amassed after falling ill with bladder cancer. Now, a new four-CD/two-DVD box set titled Benefit for Moogy Klingman featuring full performances from two of the shows will be released on May 1.

The collection features the audio and video from a concert held on January 29, 2011, at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, and from a show that took place November 18 — three days after Klingman’s death — at Peekskill Performing Arts Center in Peekskill, New York.

Klingman took part in the New York City show, as did Rundgren and three other 1974 Utopia members — drummer Kevin Ellman, keyboardist Ralph Schuckett and bassist John Siegler. Rounding out the lineup were two longtime members of Todd’s touring band, guitarist Jesse Gress and bassist Kasim Sulton, who also was a member of Utopia from 1976 until the band’s 1986 breakup.

The box set also features a booklet boasting extensive liner notes and photos.

The audio portion of the Benefit for Moogy Klingman collection also will be available via streaming services.
