MotorbooksBack in 2005, ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons published a book about his passion for cars and guitars titled Rock + Roll Gearhead.  Now the book has been updated and expanded in honor of the band’s 50th anniversary and is set to be released on June 2.

Rock + Roll Gearhead gives fans an exclusive look at Gibbons’ collection of more than 60 vintage and custom guitars, as well as at 15 hot rods and custom cars he owns.

The famous guitars featured in the book include his legendary ’59 Les Paul sunburst dubbed “Pearly Gates,” and the “Furry One,” which Gibbons plays in ZZ Top’s “Legs” video. Among the instruments newly profiled in the updated publication are a Nacho Telecaster, a 1929 National Resonator and a 1939 Rickenbacker Frying Pan.

As for the vehicles that appear in the book, they include Eliminator, the modified 1933 Ford featured in a few of ZZ Top’s classic 1980s videos, as well as Cadzzilla and Kopperhed. Among the newly added cars are a Mexican Blackbird 1958 Thunderbird, the custom-made El Camino Grocery-Getter, a Whiskey Runner ’34 Ford Coupe and the ’51 Willys Wagon.

Rock + Roll Gearhead features color and black-and-white photos of Billy’s guitars and cars, as well as the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer’s stories behind each one.

Gibbons co-wrote the book with music-industry veteran Tom Vickers.
