Tonight, Elvis Costello, Robert Cray and Sheryl Crow will perform — and Keith Richards will make a special appearance — on #TheNewGig, a three-hour benefit concert sponsored by The Jazz Foundation of America.
The concert, which starts tonight at 8 p.m. ET at JazzFoundation.org, will raise money for the Foundation’s COVID-19 Musicians’ Emergency Fund. The money will go to help musicians and their families who’ve been put out of work by the almost total shutdown of the live music industry.
Hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, with musical direction by veteran drummer Steve Jordan, the concert will feature performances by Costello, Crow and Cray, as well as Ivan Neville, Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and more.
In addition, archival performances from the Jazz Foundation’s annual fundraiser A Great Night in Harlem will be shown, including those by Patti Smith and Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes.
Keith Richards will appear as one of the “celebrity friends” of the Jazz Foundation, as will Bruce Willis, Danny Glover, funk legend Bootsy Collins, and actors Jeffrey Wright, Rosie Perez and Michael Imperioli.
