Billie Joe Armstrong has shared a cover of “Kids in America” for the latest installment of “No Fun Mondays” series.
The Green Day frontman dedicates the performance to his band mate Mike Dirnt, in honor of his birthday today.
“Play this one loud just for him,” Armstrong says.
“Kids in America” was originally released by U.K. singer Kim Wilde in 1981. It’s since been covered by a variety of different artists, including the ’90s punk band The Muffs.
Armstrong launched the “No Fun Mondays” series in March. Each Monday, he’s released a new cover, which he plans to continue doing “until we’re let back out into the world.”
Previous covers include “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tommy James & the Shondells, “Manic Monday” by The Bangles with Susanna Hoffs, and the Adam Schlesinger-penned song “That Thing You Do!”
